| COMPANY HISTORY
Our company began in 1961 when J.P. Roberts moved
to Wooster, Ohio. At that time, he purchased land
north of the city and started Sherwood Memorial
Gardens. He also started Eastlawn Memory Gardens
and Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in the mid-and-late-sixties.
During the 70's he purchased another cemetery,
established Midwest Marketing & Management
(the home office) and began a vault manufacturing
plant in Wooster. This is also the time that his
oldest son Greg Roberts began working for the
company in sales.
The 80's were the time of the most changes for
the organization. Jeff Roberts, the second eldest
son of the 4 boys, started working for the organization
in administration and bookkeeping. Kirk Roberts,
son number 3, also joined the company as a Memorial
Counselor in 1988. We purchased two more cemeteries
in Ashland and Avon Ohio and built Roberts Funeral
Home, the first cemetery/mortuary combination
in Ohio.
The 90's have been the years of the biggest growth
of the organization. Alex Roberts, the youngest
of the 4, joined the company in 1990 then returned
to school to receive his degree in mortuary science.
Each of the properties has gained market share,
sales have been steadily climbing and the quality
of our personnel has increased. In 1997, J. P.
Roberts officially retired and sold the business
to his sons.
As we move into the 2000's, we look to grow the
organization through acquisition and market share;
develop our employees; and serve more families
with the most professional and caring service.
GOALS AS A SERVICE PROVIDER
Our Vision Statement clearly defines the main purpose of our company:
“Serving Families with Personalized Options to Provide Lasting
Memories”
This Vision Statement is not just a slogan placed on our company letterhead and business
cards but is used in new employee orientation & training, company staff meetings, and
policy and procedure team meetings. Our goal is to not only make each of our locations
a beautiful place to visit but to develop long term relationships with the family and friends
who visit our cemeteries. We take very seriously the responsibility and trust that
has been given to us by the families we serve and make every effort to surpass their expectations.
This is only done with a commitment to continually improve customer service, provide the
highest quality products and services, and employ a professional and compassionate staff.
