Betty Smith

December 17, 1928 — March 3, 2015

Betty Fryman McCain Smith 86 years old passed away March 2nd, 2015 after a long illness with Parkinson's and Louis Bodies Dementia. Betty spent the last nine years in her children's home where she was always surrounded by family that provided care and constant attention. Betty was born December 17th, 1928 in Marietta, Ohio to the late Pearl and Comer Fryman. She was preceded in death by two sisters Dorothy Fryman Chute and Wilma Fryman Dutton; and brother William Fryman. She is survived by four children, Sandra Hinchman (Roger) and Connie Bortel (Steve) of Huntington WV. Douglas McCain (Tonya) of Roanoke VA., and Glen McCain of Madison, VA. There are four surviving siblings Comer Fryman Jr. (Jeannie) of Marietta, John Fryman (Jennifer) of Vincent, Ohio, Mary Lou Prater of Youngstown, Ohio, and Barbara Fryman of Mansfield, Ohio. Betty will be missed by her eleven grand children, fifteen great grand children, and one great great grandchild. Betty was married to Alfred L. McCain for 34 years when she lost him to heart disease. Twelve years later she met and married Max Smith of Vincent, Ohio where they lived for six and a half years before he passed away. Mom enjoyed many hobbies including line dancing, singing with the senior singers at senior centers, bowling two times a week, and quilting. Betty took care of her ill sister and spent a lot of time at the nursing home where her mother was a resident. Betty attended the Warren Presbyterian church where she served as an elder and church secretary. Mom loved her family and always said "What a wonderful family". We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Hospice of Huntington. Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM March 5th at Roberts Funeral Home, 27880 State Route 7, Marietta, OH 45750. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday March 6th, 2015 at Roberts Funeral Home with burial at Eastlawn Cemetery. Jim Hartline will be officiating the funeral at the families request. In leiu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, WV.
