Charles Farneth

Former Ashlander Charles "Ray" Farneth, 83, of Jackson Township, Stark County, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton.

Born August 24, 1922, in Logans Ferry, Pa., he was the son of Ralph and Florence McIntyre Farneth.

Mr. Farneth was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II in the Atlantic Theater and the landings at Normandy on D-Day. He was a member of the LST Association. ???

He was a tool and dye maker. He had been employed at Tremco as a tool and dye maker supervisor.

Mr. Farneth was a Methodist missionary in India for five years and lay minister for a period of 10 years.

He was married Oct. 23, 1943, to Bette Marie Sprinkle, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Randall Farneth and companion Karen Painter of Canton and Dennis Farneth and his wife Kim of Cedar Lake, Indiana; two daughters, Arbie Mathias and her husband Russ of Canal Winchester and Dawn Ricketts and her husband Dana of Westerville; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his brothers, twin brother Roy and his wife Jean of Lancaster, Pa., Harold and his wife Katherine of Rochester, N.Y., Robert and his wife Phyllis of New Kensington, Pa., and Ralph and his wife Alice of Monroeville, Pa.; and one sister, Ida Mae Fenn of Oakmont, Pa.

His parents; a brother, Walter; and a sister, Helen Cochran, preceded him in death.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Roberts Funeral Home, 1058 US 250 North, Ashland, with the Rev. Sandra Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park. The Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2006, at the funeral home.
