Donald Elliott

March 29, 1922 — November 26, 2009

Donald Elliott, 87, died Thursday, November 26, 2009, of Wooster at West View Manor in Wooster. A Grange Service will be held at 5:30 PM on Monday, friends may call Monday from 6 PM to 8 PM at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Cross United Methodist, 5100 Cleveland RdWooster and The Ohio State Grange 16303 Village Rd Fredericktown, OH 43019 in lieu of flowers.


Don was born March 29, 1922, in Seville to Newell Jay and Zella {Reece} Elliott.
Don was in the US Navy from September 1942 until October of 1945. He served in World War II. Don married Iola Yarnell on December 13, 1942.


He worked at N.J. Elliott & Son Feed Mill from 1945 till 1972 when it closed, as well as the Research Center from 1972 to 1987 when he retired. He drove school bus for Wooster City Schools. He was the 14 th Master of Ohio State Grange. He was a member of Union Grange for over 70 years He also was a member of the State and the National Grange. Don was a lifetime member of the Church of the Cross United Methodist. He loved baseball. He played at Smithville where he still holds the record for most no hitters in one season. Don loved spending time with his family and friends.



Don will be deeply missed by his wife Iola; children: Donna Jean Chambers of Columbus, Lola and David Wertz of Orrville, Cheryl Prost of Shreve and John and Jan of Wooster; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.



Don was preceded in death by his brother Newell J. Elliott Jr. and infant brother Francis Elliott and son-in-law Dewey Prost.
