Mary Croyle

Mary Croyle, 91, of Wadsworth, died Friday, November 13, 2015 at Liberty Residence I, in Wadsworth.
Mary Lucile Schnell Croyle was born in Orrville, Ohio, on March 23, 1924, the youngest of Hervey A. and Emma E. Yoder Schnell's four children. She resided in Orrville all of her formative years and was baptized and became a member of the Orrville Mennonite Church on July 24, 1938. She graduated from Orrville High School in the Class of 1942.
She attended Goshen College where she earned a B.A. degree in English. Here she met Denton E. Croyle whom she married June 19, 1948, after having worked two years as Secretary to the Orrville Supt. of Schools.
Living in Pittsburgh from 1948-1950, she was a secretary in the district office of Standard Brands, Inc. In June of 1950 Mary and Denton moved to Johnstown, PA, where she became a full-time homemaker when Denton established a dental practice. Here their two oldest children were born, Philip J. (Sherri) Croyle in 1951 and Ann Louise (David) Weldy in 1953.
In September of 1953 the family moved to Westville, IN, where Denton served two years in I-W service at Beatty Memorial Hospital after which they settled in Wadsworth, OH, where Mary lived out her life. Their two youngest children joined the family here, John Marshall (Caroline) Croyle in 1956 and Warren Lee (Jan) Croyle in 1958.
She became a member of First Mennonite Church in 1961 where she served on commissions, as treasurer of the church, taught children's Sunday School and Bible School, and was a member and held various offices in Women's Mission Service, later known as Mennonite Women. She was also treasurer of Central District Women in Mission for one term. In the community she served as treasurer of the Wadsworth PTA Thrift Shop, as a volunteer at the Mennonite Central Committee's Orrville Thrift and Gift Shop and the Wadsworth Meals-On-Wheels.
Mary will be deeply missed by her 4 children; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Denton of 61 years, one grandchild, two sisters and a brother.
Memorial services will be at First Mennonite Church of Wadsworth on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or First Mennonite Church of Wadsworth both at 405 Trease Rd., Wadsworth, OH 44281.
