Nelson Murray

Nelson D. Murray, 71, of Ashland passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at his residence. Nelson was born December 4, 1938 in Lodi, Ohio to Howard J. and Pearl (Zigler) Murray. He married Phoebe Merkey on November 17, 1957. She died February 28, 2005.


Nelson was a member of Chippewa church of the brethren prior to entering Brethren Volunteer Services, where he met Phoebe, the love of his life. He owned South market Street Shell and West Liberty Street Shell,( Nelson's Car shellter). Nelson worked at Good Shepherd Nursing Home after selling the Shell stations. He was a member of Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren. Nelson donated over 31 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. He enjoyed reading, playing accordion and harmonica, gardening, tinkering around, and learning about different religions.


Nelson will be deeply missed by children; Charles Duane (Lisa) Murray of Ashland, Cynthia Suzanne (Richard) Linehan of Hinckley, Eric Zane (Kim) Murray of UT, Keith Wynne (Cheryl) Murray of Jeromesville, Kent Wayne Murray of Mansfield; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers; Paul (Patty) Murray of Wooster, Roger (Beverly) Murray of NC, Richard (Becky) Murray of CO, and Robert (Bette) Murray of Wooster.




Along with his wife Phoebe, Nelson was preceded in death by his parents.



Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11a.m. at Ashland Dickey Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Durward Hays officiating. Friends may call 1 hr prior. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home- Ashland Chapel. Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com .
