Virgil LeRoy Martin, 93, formerly of Holmesville, died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Walnut Hills Retirement Community, in Walnut Creek.



Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster.Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Hall officiating. Entombment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster where military rites will be held. Virgil was born March 16, 1918 in Prairie Township to Havley H. and Sarah F. (Hastings) Martin.He served in the US Army during World War II serving in the European Theater in the Third Army.



He married Arvada Muller on April 2, 1943; she died April 18, 2004.



Virgil was a bus driver and custodian for the Southeast Local Schools for many years. He then was a custodian for the Holmes County Training Center for 11 years prior to his retirement in 1982.Virgil was a member of the Holmesville United Methodist Church. He had an agricultural background and enjoyed his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



Virgil will be deeply missed by his son Carl (Beth) Martin of Shreve; granddaughters Heather (Curt) Holmes and Teresa (Brian) Welker; great-grandchildren Jacob, Anna, and Emma; sister Pauline Miller of Wooster and numerous nieces and nephews.



In addition to his wife Arvada, brothers Russell, Dean, Glen, and Harold preceded Virgil in death.
