J.P. Roberts
Founder
Retired

J.P. was born in Sneedville, Tennessee, where he graduated from Sneedville High School in 1947. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from East Tennessee State University in 1951. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following the war, he and his brother Chester founded many cemeteries in Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia including Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster, Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Wadsworth, and Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Brunswick. With his sons, he was the founder of Roberts Funeral Home in Wooster, the first Cemetery / Funeral Home Combination in Ohio.

He was very active in the cemetery industry in Ohio and nationally, serving as president of the Ohio Association of Cemeteries and on the board of the American Cemetery Association. He earned the Outstanding Cemeterian Award in 1988, only the second time it had been presented.

He is a member of Grace Brethren Church and past president of the Madisonburg Lions Club. He served the Wooster community in many ways: raising money and donating thousands of hours to better the community. He enjoys golf, fishing, travel, and spending time with his ten grandchildren.

 

Alex P. Roberts
President, Roberts Funeral Home

Alex was born in Wooster, Ohio, where he graduated from Wooster High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Miami University. He graduated with an Associate Degree in Mortuary Science from The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, and was president of his fraternity. After serving an apprenticeship under his brother Jeff Roberts he was licensed as a funeral director in 1994.

Alex and his wife Pam live with their two sons in Wooster. He is a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Wooster where he is active in the music ministry. Alex also serves the community in the Wooster Noon Lions Club, where he is past president and earned the prestigious Melvin Jones award. Alex is also a member of the Ebenezer Lodge #33 F&AM, and Wooster Chapter #27 of the York Rite. He has served on several boards including Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce, Wayne County Children Services Board, and the Wooster Noon Lions Club. Alex enjoys spending time with his family, golf, travel, and playing the drums.

 

Jeffrey P. Roberts

Jeff was born in Kentucky, and graduated from Wooster High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Miami University. Jeff earned his funeral director license in 1988.

Jeff and his wife Michelle live with their three children in Wooster. He is a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Wooster where he serves on the high school youth staff and is an usher. Jeff also serves the community in the Kiwanis Club, where he is past president. He has served on several boards including The Red Cross, Grace Brethren Church, the International Cemetery and Funeral Association (ICFA), and United Way. He is a past president of the Ohio Association of Cemeteries (OAC). Jeff enjoys coaching his children’s sporting events and playing tennis.

 

Kirk D. Roberts
COO Cemetery Division
Licensed Funeral Director

Kirk was born in Wooster, Ohio and graduated from Wooster High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Miami University. After serving his apprenticeship under his brother Alex, Kirk earned his funeral director license in 2000.

Kirk and his wife Kim live with their two children in Wooster. He is a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Wooster where he participates in the Celebration Orchestra. Kirk has served on boards including the Ohio Association of Cemeteries, and the Wooster Christian School Board, where he served as President of both organizations. Kirk enjoys spending time with his family, travel, and cooking on the grill.

 

Gregory W. Roberts
Director of Preneed Services

Greg was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and graduated from Wooster High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and Management from Ashland University.

Greg and his wife Mindy live in Wooster with their three daughters. He is a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Wooster. Greg is a 20-year member of the Wooster Rotary Club where he has been an active member of the annual Antique Auction committee. Greg is a past president of the Ohio Association of Cemeteries, and is a past board member of the International Cemetery and Funeral Association. He has been very active in the cemetery industry. Greg enjoys spending time with his family, travel, and golf.

 

Edwin G. “Ed” Herrick
Licensed Funeral Director

Ed was born in Mansfield, Ohio, where he graduated from Mansfield High School. He graduated from the University of Toledo. Ed has been a licensed funeral director in Ohio since 1993; he joined Roberts Funeral Home in 1999.

Ed and his wife Regina live in Ashland, Ohio; their daughter Christina also lives in Ashland. He is a member of the Lutheran Church in Ashland where he serves as an usher. Ed is a Past Master of Ashland Lodge F&AM. He is a member of Ashland Chapter, Council, Commandry; Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, where he is a 32nd degree Mason. He is a Past District Deputy Grand High Priest for the 10th Capitular District. Ed serves on the Ashland Agency on Aging, his hobbies include Model Railroading, Civil War history, reading, and Masonry.

Tracy Boorom
Apprentice Funeral Director

Tracy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and lived in Charleston S.C. for fifteen years where she graduated from Wando High School. She has been in the Air Force Reserves for over nine years and currently holds the rank of Technical Sergeant. She graduated with an Associate Degree in Science from Trident Technical College in Charleston, S.C. She also graduated in 2007 with her Bachelors Degree in Mortuary Science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. She is currently serving both her funeral directing and embalming apprenticeships under Alex Roberts.

Tracy is a member of St. Mary’s’ Church in Wooster. She is a lifetime member of the VFW. She has received Two Air Force Achievement Medals, one Air Force Commendation Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. She enjoys soccer, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Dennis Davidson

Dennis was born in Akron, Ohio the fourth of nine children. He graduated from Akron Garfield High School and joined the US Navy. While on active duty, he received a degree in mathematics from the College of the State of New York. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer after 23 years in the Navy. Dennis is married to Renee, and has four children and three grandchildren. Dennis enjoys spending time with his family and woodworking.

 

Marilyn K. Zimmerly
Administrator

Marilyn was born in Rittman the 10th of 11 children and graduated from Rittman High School. She and her husband Kenny have been married for 45 years and live in Wooster. She joined Sherwood Memorial Gardens in 1978 as secretary to the owner and founder, J. P. Roberts. She enjoys being a part of the progress over the years and watching the company grow. She enjoys spending time with her family, which includes 3 children and their spouses and 6 grandchildren.

 

Becky Ryan
Administrator

Becky was born and raised in Rittman. Graduated from Rittman High and Wooster Business College. She joined Roberts Funeral Home in 1995. She has worked in the bookkeeping department and as an administrator for the Ashland Chapel and Hillcrest Chapel.

Becky and her husband Dave have been married for 27 years and live in Wooster. She has 3 married children and six grandchildren. Along with her husband, Becky spends her spare time in our ministry "Works of Service" providing home repairs to financially and physically challenged.

 

Sandy Keck
Administrator

Sandy was born in Louisa, Kentucky, and moved at the age of three with her family to Rittman, Ohio. She attended Rittman Schools from start to finish, graduating in 1971.
Sandy earned her diploma from Hammel College in Akron and became a Roberts Family employee in December of 2001.

She still resides in Rittman with her husband of 33 years, James Keck. They raised a daughter and a son and have one little granddaughter, Gabrielle. She also spent time with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Rittman Band Boosters in a variety of positions and was scorekeeper for softball and volleyball when her daughter played. Now she spends her time with Gabby and remodeling her home. She reads when she gets a minute.

 

Lynn Bednar
Administrator

Lynn was born in Lodi and graduated from Northwestern High School. She joined Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel in May 2006. Lynn and her husband Geoff have been married for 23 years. After living in Rockford, Michigan for 20 years, they now live in Wooster. Their sons Shane and Garrett attend Smithville schools. Lynn enjoys spending time at her sons' sporting events.

 

Becky Green
Administrator

Becky was born and raised in Ashland, graduating from Ashland High School and earning an Associate Degree from the University of Akron in Sectretarial Law. Becky joined the Roberts Funeral Home - Ashland Chapel in August of 2006 after returning back to Ohio from Tennessee, where she lived for 21 years. Along with her husband, Dale, Becky has four children: Tyler, Teri, Tanner, and Tucker. She is a member of the New London Christian Alliance Church and is very active in Cub Scouts, where she has been a den mother for 5 years.
