Carmen Elizabeth Lauer, 81, of Marietta, OH passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 16, 2025, after a short battle with cancer, in her home. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Carmen leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and quiet faith that touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on August 15, 1944, in Marietta, OH. Carmen was the daughter of the late John and Alma Harris. Carmen was a 1963 graduate of Marietta High School. She was mostly known for her presence at Harts Family Center where she worked for 30 years until they closed permanently in 1996. Then she moved to Big Bear Plus where she retired in 2004. She couldn’t handle being home all day, so she eventually went to work at Peoples Bank until she retired again a few years later when her husband retired. While she was on her work journey she met several of her lifelong friends. Carmen loved to roller skate in her younger years, she would say “we didn’t just skate, we danced”. She attended Pleasant Hill Church. And she enjoyed helping others.
On January 19, 1985, Carmen married the love of her life, David R. Lauer. Between the 2 they had 5 children. Michael (Angela) Durham of Lowell, OH, Anthony Lauer of Myrtle Beach, SC, Becca (Bradley) Garrison of Parkersburg, WV, David (Amy) Lauer of Marietta, OH, & Angela (Brent) Bolt of Caldwell. OH. She is also survived by her grandchildren Michael II, Zackory, Cheyenne, Ashley, Brittany, Carter, Brock, Daniel, Darla, Shawna and Aiden, with whom she had a very special bond; 17 great-grandchildren and 1 she was looking forward to meeting in the spring. Several nieces and nephews, some local some far away but never far from her heart, and one very special niece Melissa.
Preceding her in death was her parents, her siblings Donald, Dean, Larry, Blaine, Stanley, Marge Harris and Pauline Beaver.
Grandma Carmen will always be remembered for constantly having sweets on hand to give the kids, especially her sugar cookies every holiday.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day.” ~ 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
Friends and family can visit on Sunday October 19, 2025 from 2 pm to 8pm at Roberts Funeral Home, 27880 St. Rt. 7, Marietta, OH 45750. Funeral service will be Monday at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Saundra Boley officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
