Clyde Donald Sampsel Sr., 92, of Wooster, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025 at Ohio’s LifeCare Hospice.
Clyde was born April 23, 1933 in Coshocton to William and Ellen {Rhinehart} Sampsel. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, where he earned a Purple Heart Medal. Clyde married Nancy Weidner on February 23, 1957. She passed away March 29, 2025.
He worked for Lockhart Construction as a heavy equipment operator; he was a member of Local 18 Operating Engineers. He attended the Freewill Baptist Church in Creston and enjoyed working outdoors, tinkering in his garage, and mowing lawns.
Clyde will be deeply missed by his children Debbie (Bill) Jackson of Orrville, Clyde Sampsel Jr. of Wooster; grandchildren Jamie (Brett) Neely of Florida and Lora Wachtel of Orrville; great-grandchildren Nora and Oliver Wachtel; sister Madeline Pierce of Jeromesville.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Clyde was preceded in death by siblings Prem, Herman, Lawrence, Franklin, Rueben, Pauline, Lena, Margaret, Angeline, Marie.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m at the funeral home (and livestreamed at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com/obituaries/Clyde-Sampsel).
