Daniel E. Weltzien, 86, of Rittman, passed early Tuesday morning, May 15, 2018 in his sleep.
Daniel was born June 13, 1931 in Wadsworth, Ohio to Clyde and Geneva {Everhard} Weltzien.
He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
In 1953 Dan married Glenna Petak of Rittman. They were together for 25 years and raised 4 children. Glenna passed away 25 years later in 2003 at
age 71.
Skypark Airport was Dan’s dream come true. He wanted to bring the first flying community to Northern Ohio. With the help of his family and many supportive friends he was able to bring that vision to Wadsworth.
Along with loving airplanes, he enjoyed his motorcycles and guns.
He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Wadsworth
where he could be occasionally seen. Dan was also a Mason and Rotarian for over 60 years.
Daniel leaves behind his children Greg Weltzien of CO, Holly Stack of AK, Kevin (Sue) Weltzien of Wadsworth, Amy (Tim) Webster of Wadsworth; grandchildren Crystal (Mike) Gergy, Amanda Weltzien, Eamon (Audrey) Stack, Trinity Stack, Elsa Weltzien, Tonya Laudermilk, Lidi Webster; great-grandchildren Jaxon Weltzien, Orion Stack; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his best friend Joel Kull and beloved dog Jenny.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Catherine Scalise, and Norabel Honert.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Hillcrest Chapel, Seville. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Jackie McMillian officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held.
