David Martin Wells

David Martin Wells met his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 3, 2024. He was born on September 16, 1945 to Arland Raymond Wells and Grace Victoria Allen Spuhler at People's Hospital in Akron, OH.  He spent his first seven years in Doylestown, OH before moving to Florida.  

David grew up in Palmetto, FL where he graduated from Palmetto High School in 1964.  While at Palmetto High School, he played basketball and lettered in track for the high jump.  He graduated from Manatee Junior College (State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota) and then graduated from Florida State University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. 

David enlisted in the U.S. Army Security Agency after graduation.  He served in Vietnam with the 371st Radio Research Company of the First Cavalry Division at Phuc Vinh as an intelligence analyst.  He also served in Panama and Fort Huachuca, AZ, before being honorably discharged in 1972.  David married Nancy Elizabeth Hune on April 25, 1970 and settled in Marietta after his discharge from the Army. They raised their four children, Coleen (Fleming), Susan, Michael, and Amy Grace in the same home on Harmar Hill.

David loved genealogy and had extensively researched his family history with the help of his cousin Elden.  He was a proud Florida State University Alumni and a fan of the Seminoles football team.  He had a love of all animals and the family always had a houseful of various pets.  In his free time, he also enjoyed gardening and photography.

David was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife and children, his four siblings Darlyne (Roller), Arland (Buddy) Jr, Mary (Richburg), and Terry, his grandchildren Hayden, Abigail, and Mabel (Martin-Wells), along with other family members and relatives.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 2 to 3 PM at Roberts Funeral Home, 27880 St. Rt. 7, Marietta, OH 45750. Funeral services will follow at 3 PM with Pastor Mike Horner officiating with VFW Post 5108 and American Legion Post 64 providing military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley in David's name.
