Dean Allen Hartsel Sr, 85, of Ashland, OH, suddenly passed away Monday, January 26, 2026, at Mansfield Hospital, in Mansfield, OH. Dean was born January 13, 1941, in Ashland, OH to Marion Willis and Lois Glorine {Koppler} Hartsel.
Dean retired from Abbott Laboratories after 35 or more years. He helped make baby bottles and parts as well as some medical equipment. He was the kind of man who could fix anything. He loved wood working. Rocking Horses, corn hole games, shelves, and all kinds of fun and useful stuff. Basically, anything wood kept him busy from sun-up to sun-down. While the last few years slowed him down, he still loved to putter in the garage. He also liked to play card games (even tournaments), dance, and attend auctions (junk collector….). He loved to resell stuff if he could make a penny. He enjoyed camping when his kids were young. Years ago, he attended the Trinity church. Tuesday mornings found him eating breakfast with a group of retired men from Abbott.
Dean will be deeply missed by his children Nancy (Joe Clifford) Hartsel, Scott (Heather) Hartsel, Heather (David Caudill) Hartsel; stepchild Marcy Fenn; grandchildren Lailah Ogden, Alexander (Miranda) Hartsel, Summer Kramer, Autumn Sheldon, Betty Jo (Chris) Bell, Gunner Dull; great-grandchildren Knox, Kinsley, Braxton, and several others; sisters Pat (Arden) Fitch, Pamelia (Ron) Koppler, Portia Hamilton, Peg (Howard) Keller, Phyllis (John) Lariscy as well as his special friend Linda Donelson.
