Donald Richard McCain, 92, of Marietta, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Harmar Place. He was born January 10, 1932 in Marietta to the late Frederick M. and Edna Jones McCain.
He had lived in this area all his life, attended Marietta schools and graduated while serving in the U. S. Navy.
Donald married Mildred Ullman on November 6, 1954.
He retired in 1996 from Proctor & Gamble where he was employed as a sales representative and after retirement continued to serve as part-time sales representative for many years. He had also retired as a sales manager from Standard Brands/Nabisco Brands. Prior to employment in the food industry, he had been a sales representative for Pure Oil Company and owned and operated a Pure Oil Service station at Second and Greene Streets in Marietta and worked for Union Carbide Corporation.
Donald was honorably discharged from the U. S. Navy having served in the Korean War from 1950–1954 as Petty Officer 3/C Boatswains Mate/Amphibian Task Force. He was also honorably discharged from the National Guard after three years of service. He was awarded many service medals and ribbons of accommodations including the Korean War Service Medal from the Pres. of South Korea.
He was an active member of Williams Creek Baptist Church for many years. He was a member of The Gideons International and a member of the American Legion Post 64 and Life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5108.
Donald is survived by his daughter Julie Diane (Jeremy) Russell; granddaughter, Hailey Reese Russell all of Lexington, Ohio; sister Shirley (Jimmy) Hartline and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife Mildred McCain, infant son Kirk Donavon; sisters Velma Crudele and Kathleen Ritter; and three brothers, Fred McCain Jr., Alfred McCain, and Frank McCain.
Services will be held Friday, May 17th at 2 PM at Roberts Funeral Home, 27880 St. Rt. 7, Marietta, OH 45750. with Dr. Michael Horner officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park where military honors will be held.
