Dr. Alvin “Al” Garrett, 95, of Ashland, died Monday, September 4, 2023 at his residence.
Al was born July 7, 1928 in South Trenton, NY to Wayne and Edna {Stone} Garrett.
He attended Hobart College and then Case Western Reserve school of Podiatry. Al served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Doctor from 1952-1954 in the Korean War.
He married Jean Palmer July 31, 1955, who passed away on August 20, 1999. He then married Betty Dewey on March 31, 2001.
He was a Podiatrist at his own private practice in Ashland for 50 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He also was involved in the Shriners and the Noon Lions Club, In over 68 years he never missed a Noon Lions Club meeting. Al enjoyed sports, notably golf where he had 2 hole in ones. He also loved Cleveland sports, especially the Indians and the Browns.
Al will be deeply missed by his wife Betty; children Steven, John, Philip, Carolyn Atkins; grandchildren Brittany, Ryan, Shannon, Nate, Madison, Alex, Kyle and Ruby; great-grandchildren Theodosia and Leia; and his sister Sandy.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Henry, Wesley, Leo and Glen, Sisters Ruth, Muriel and Ann and first wife Jean.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. & Saturday from 9 to 10 am. at First Presbyterian Church in Ashland. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 am at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Hylden officiating.
