Gloria Benner

Gloria Joan Benner, 85, of Ashland, passed away peacefully Friday, March 23, 2018 at Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, surrounded by family and friends.

Gloria was born October 13, 1932 in Ashland County to Creighton and Myrtle August {nee  Stonerock} Harrison.

She married David William Benner on July 8, 1954.  He passed away on August 6, 2014.

Gloria worked at Ashland Rubber for several years.  She then worked for Wally (Walter) and Mary Babiak at the Continental Country Store.  Gloria also worked for Cy and Effie Swineford at the Reed House Restaurant in Nova as a cook/waitress and also the gas station that was owned by them.  Later she worked at Burger King in Ashland and Firelands Nursing Home in New London.  Gloria’s last work place was with the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office where she was a cook/deputy matron.  She was known by her family and friends as Joan.

Gloria will be deeply missed by her daughters Tamie Haupricht of Nova and Cindy Benner of Ashland; grandchildren David M. Baldauf and Jessica L. Baldauf; great-grandchildren  Jacob A. Lesco and Alexa J. Keck; brothers-in-law Earl (Pat) Benner of Apache Junction, AZ and Glenn (Pauline), Clyde and Kenny (Sally) Benner all of Ashland; sister-in-law Ruth (Paul) Bright and  Shirley Benner all of Ashland, and lifelong friend and family member Roger D. (Joanne) Shopbell.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, son David Mark Benner in 1955, daughter Debra June Cowen in 2004; brothers Starling R. Harrison and Ronald D. (Marjorie) Harrison; sisters Kathleen C. (George) Kendall, Helen Evelyn (Wilbur) Whitehead and Marian M.(LeRoy) Denslow; parents Creighton and Myrtle A. Harrison.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel, Ashland. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastors John Ballinger and LouAnn Miller officiating. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park.
