Helen Jo Nielsen

Helen Jo Nielsen, 84, passed away from complications due to a long struggle with Alzheimer’s on Saturday, May 30, 2026. She was born in Logan, West Virgina on December 5, 1941 to Joe and Oma Jean {MacDonald} Gibson.

She was a graduate of Man High School in West Virginia, where she excelled at playing the trumpet in the marching band. She attended Concord University in Athens, West Virginia before moving to Columbus, Ohio. She married Ralph E. Nielsen on July 22, 1962. She enjoyed the outdoors, Buckeye football, fishing, camping, and was an avid and accomplished hunter, winning several trophy awards from the Buckeye Big Buck Club.  Helen raised her family and kept her beautiful home for many years. For about five years she worked as the stenographer for the WIBC – Woman’s International Bowling Congress.

Helen is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Helen was preceded in death by her parents.
