James Brogan

September 3, 1943 — April 16, 2021

James William Brogan passed away peacefully on April 16, 2021 after lengthy battle with COPD and a recent cancer diagnosis.

He was 77 years old and lived in Wadsworth most of his life.

Jim was the son of Sarah Jane (Huth) and Russell C. Brogan Sr. of Wadsworth.

Jim was a member of Operating Engineers Local 18 for 54 years.

Jim enjoyed talking to buddies on HAM radio. His Amateur Radio call sign was KC8CZY. He was a member of the Wadsworth Moose Club for many years.

Jim had a very unique relationship with his brother Russell “Pete” Brogan, Jr. Born only 18 months apart, Pete being the eldest. Jim and Pete followed each other in their careers. Starting out working for their dad’s construction business, Brogan Excavating in Wadsworth. They both joined Operating Engineers Local 18 just a few years apart. Both spent most of their careers working for WG Lockhart, and many years working for Chapman Excavating. They were brothers, lifelong coworkers, and very close friends.

Jim enjoyed telling a good joke and making people laugh. Lots of time was spent fishing and hiking. In his younger years he enjoyed woodworking and auto detailing. Jim enjoyed the many dogs he had throughout his life. The last dog, Johnny the Border Collie, took him on many adventures. Including forming a retiree's dog walking club, called the “Big Dawgs Club”.

He leaves behind daughter, Jennifer Esterle and Son-In-law, Kevin Esterle of Norton. He also leaves behind brother, Russell Brogan Jr. of Leesburg, Florida, and sibling Sue Brogan.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years Mary M. (Miller) Brogan who passed in 2009.  He was also preceded in death by step daughter, Tonya Lynn Miller, nephew, Timothy Brogan, Sister-in-Law, Nancy (Overfield) Brogan, brother, Daniel Brogan, close friend James Decker, and his parents.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic a service will take place by the family at a later date.

Arrangements were made by Roberts Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Chapel 9560 Acme Road Seville, OH 44273. Jim will be placed with his wife, Mary.
