James Ray Hackworth, 76, of Wooster, went home Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
James was born July 19, 1947, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Jerry and Alta Mae Hackworth.
James served in the Navy from 1967 to 1971 where he served on different Aircraft Carriers.
He married Judith Riggsby on July 15, 1970. She survives.
James did electric motor repair for many years, he also taught at the Wayne County Career Center. He attended the Apostolic Church. James enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and tinkering with stuff.
James will be deeply missed by his wife, Judi; children Robbin (Jim) Banzhof of Springfield, Shannon (Darin) Pritt of Wooster, and Jason (Samantha) Hackworth of Smithville; grandchildren Hannah (Adam) Davis of Springfield, Nathanael (Brooke) Pritt of Castro Valley, CA, Ryan (Katy) Pritt of Alameda, CA, Ethan Pritt of Wooster, Brittney (Dillon) Montanez of Brewster, Victoria Hackworth of Wooster, and Anthony and Cody Hackworth of Smithville; great-grandchildren Everett Pritt, Eliza Pritt, Eddison Pritt, Rhett Pritt, and Evelyn Pritt ; brothers Randy and Jeffrey Hackworth both of Wooster; sisters Karen Huff of Georgia, Lesi Jarrell of New York, and Lori Gelvin of Wooster.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call January 9, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Entombment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be conducted by the 555th Honors Detachment, of which James was a member.
