James Lee Spearman, 87, of Mount Vernon, OH, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026, at Country Club Rehabilitation, in Mount Vernon.
Jim was born January 7, 1939, in Sunbury, OH to Albert and Helena {Diehl} Spearman. He graduated from Big Walnut High School in Sunbury. He served in the Navy in 1960. He married Nancy Griffin on December 14, 1962.
He assembled the electronic control panels for Cooper and Rolls-Royce until he retired. He and Nancy attended and volunteered for the Mount Vernon Central Church of Christ for most of their lives. He fixed things, passed the plate and served as an elder.
He was also an avid bicyclist. He rode across the state of Ohio from Mount Vernon to Portsmouth, OH and back every year for many years. Down one day and back the next. TOSRV (Tour of the Scioto River Valley). He bought all different kinds of bicycles. He biked to work every day rather than using a second car. He also loved to camp and fish. Most weekends you could find him on their permanent campsite at Rustic Knolls. He loved to tease his granddaughters and great-grandsons Zanuel “Zane” and Aedric.
Jim will be deeply missed by his wife; children Mark (Tami) Spearman, Larry Spearman; granddaughters Kyna (Nathan) Betts, Jayme (Tyler Barnhill) Spearman; great-grandsons Zanuel and Aedric Betts and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Jahnke, brothers Ralph, Dwight, Lawrence, Herbert, and Floyd Spearman.
Friends may call Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Mount Vernon Chapel, 18260 Coshocton Rd, Mount Vernon, OH. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial immediately follows at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers you can donate a bicycle to a child in Jim’s name.
