John Edwin Kirkendall, 80, of Lucas, passed away October 4, 2026.
John was born March 5, 1946 in Shreve, Ohio to LeRoy Kirkendall and Sarah Thelma {Yingling} Kirkendall.
John served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967, where he received a Purple Heart, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with a bronze star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal and Vietnamese Campaign Medal.
He married Barbara Bennett. She passed away in 2016.
John worked for Conrail which later became Norfolk Southern, for over 40 years before retiring there. He loved going to Car Shows, where he would show off his collection of Classic Cars. John loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion post 257, and the Loudonville Eagles 2275.
John will be deeply missed by his children Brad (Brenda) Eagle of Loudonville and Brenda (Chuck) Metcalf of Mansfield; grandchildren Ashley Gray and Miranda (Adam) Guy, Dustin, Matt (Mandy) and Megan Metcalf; great-grandsons Mason Spreng, Carson Metcalf, and Chase Metcalf; great-granddaughters McKenzie Metcalf, Emma Gray, and Macie Metcalf; many nieces and nephews; and his dog Peewee.
John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barb, and his siblings.
Friends may call Thursday October 8 from 11 to 12:30 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Graveside services will follow at 1:15 p.m. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where military rites will be held. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.
