Larry Gopp

July 29, 1954 — March 14, 2021

Larry Dean Gopp, 66, of Wooster, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 14, 2021.

Larry was born July 29, 1954 in Massillon, Ohio to Lawrence and Eva {Wilbur} Gopp.

He graduated from Waynedale High School in 1972. Larry attended The Ohio State University.

He married Katherine Dawn Reitz on May 3, 1986.

Larry worked as a financial services manager for many years, as well as in restaurant / kitchen management for 5 years. He retired from selling insurance in 2017. Larry was a recent member of Connection Church, Wooster, and past member of Foursquare Church where he grew up and spent most of his adult life. Larry & Kathy had been youth directors and Sunday School superintendents. They loved being married and were later involved in marriage ministry. He loved to teach both youth and adults. Larry excelled at teaching Sunday School and teaching from Christian books.

Larry brightened a room when he entered it with his bright smile and friendly personality. He loved people and animals, especially cats, horses and eagles. He enjoyed sports in his younger days, playing football and softball. He then coached softball, he was always up for a game of euchre with family and friends or playing backgammon with his sister. He did sudoku or played cards on the computer when he could not round up a person to accept his challenge.

He loved boating, camping and water skiing and had his scuba diver’s license. For years he and family members went on an annual hunting trip, he also hosted fishing trips. He loved the water and enjoyed vacations to the Atlantic Ocean and finally got to see the Pacific Ocean in 2018!

He had a huge passion for cooking and hospitality, and he was quick to invite people over to try his new or time-tested recipes.

Larry will be deeply missed by his wife Kathy; parents of Apple Creek; sister Rae Ann (Jim) Wines of Apple Creek; and nephew Cody Wines; mother-in-law Judy Reitz (Ma Ritzer); brother-in-law Graydon (Sandra) Reitz; niece Jessica Reitz; and Nephew Charles Reitz. He will be missed by many family members and friends. He held especially dear the body of Christ at Connection Church.

Larry was preceded in death by his father-in-law John G. Reitz.
