Lori Lynn Johnson (née Smith), age 46, passed away on July 19, 2025, at the Ohio University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Born at home on February 23, 1979, in Wooster, Ohio, Lori brought warmth and joy to those around her throughout her life.
Lori was the beloved daughter of Roy and Lynn Smith and grew up in a close-knit family alongside her sisters, Rachel and Sarah. She was a devoted mother to her son Ethan, whom she cherished deeply and supported with unwavering love. Lori was particularly close to her grandmother, Elsie Smith, with whom she shared a special bond.
Raised outside the tiny village of Congress, Lori attended schools in the Northwestern Local School District as a proud Husky. During her school years, she was actively involved in choir and cheerleading—early signs of the vibrant spirit, friendliness and positive attitude that would define her life. Her love for music and performance continued into adulthood, often expressed through singing karaoke, fellowship, and joyful conversations with friends and family.
Faith played an important role in Lori’s life. She grew up attending services at West Hill Baptist Church and later found fellowship at Gateway Church. These communities were sources of strength and connection for her over the years.
Lori had a bubbly personality that made everyone feel welcome. She had a gift for making others smile and was always eager to cheer on her loved ones in their pursuits. Whether it was attending a local sports game or simply offering words of encouragement, Lori’s support was heartfelt and constant.
She enjoyed spending time with those she cared about most—talking, visiting, laughing—and could often be found watching episodes of Law & Order or rooting for local sports teams. Her friendships were deep and lasting, and Lori was always happy to visit and spend quality time with her loved ones. Despite suffering from many health issues, she took joy in supporting others in their endeavors, most notably her son, niece, nephews and cousins.
Lori’s passing is mourned by many who knew and loved her. In addition to her son Ethan, parents Roy and Lynn Smith, sisters Rachel (Scott) Mathers and Sarah Smith (Justin) O'Dell, niece Chloe (Adam) Ondo, and nephews Dylan and Ellis, she is remembered by numerous extended relatives and friends. She now joins in rest her grandparents William and Elsie Smith, Junior and Ruth Gentry; her uncle Daniel Gentry; and her best friend Bryan Schattschneider.
