Mary Misner

November 9, 1927 — August 31, 2022

Wooster

Mary Catherine {Bemus} Misner, 94, of Wooster, went to be with her Lord and Savior whom she loved and served on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at West View Healthy Living in Wooster, Ohio.

Mary was born November 9, 1927, in Bemus Point, NY to Howard and Alma {Fahrney} Bemus. Her father died unexpectedly at the age of 31 so she spent her childhood and school years in Waynesboro, PA with her mother and sister. She graduated from Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA in 1952.

Mary married her high school sweetheart Donald Misner on May 31, 1952. He died February 2, 1980. Together with her husband they attended the York Grace Brethren Church where they were youth group leaders, quiz coaches, and had a great influence in the lives of many young adults. Their home was always open to missionaries that were home on furlough who they supported and prayed for faithfully.

Mary taught English, Spanish, and Latin for the Spring Grove School District in Spring Grove, PA for 27 years, retiring in 1983.

In 1991, she moved to Wooster, Ohio to be close to her daughter and quickly became involved at the Wooster Grace Church. She continued to support many missionaries as she gave, prayed, and even traveled to England, France, Canada, Brazil, and the Czech Republic to support them in their ministry abroad.  She faithfully served on the Global Task Force, Cross Cultural Task Force, Library Committee, Women of Grace Missions Group, Sowing Hope Team, Pastors’ Prayer Breakfast, and the Funeral Meal Team. She loved being a mom and grandma to many international families who came to study in Wooster. When she was not volunteering her time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting and tending to her beautiful flower beds.

Mary will be deeply missed by her children Cathy (Scott) Simms of Wooster, David (Judy) Misner of Bloomer WI, and Richard (Mary) Misner of Spencer, NC; 9 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; her sister Jane Kennedy of New Brighton, PA. and her sister-in-law Suzie Misner of Mercersburg, PA.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald.
