Maxine Johnson

September 5, 1933 — March 12, 2024

Polk

Lois Maxine Johnson, 90, of Polk, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 12, 2024.  Maxine was born September 5, 1933 in Blachleyville, Ohio to Donald J. and Anna (Arnold) Babb.  She graduated from Congress High School where she met the love of her life, James W. Johnson.  They were married June 28, 1953.  He survives.  She started her working career in the office at Montgomery Ward, then as a secretary at Rubbermaid.  For 23 years she served as a secretary in the Department of Entomology at OARDC, where she made many wonderful friends and enjoyed assisting the grad students.

Maxine began playing piano at the Synagogue Church of God in the 6th grade. She played for worship services at Red Haw United Methodist Church and accompanied her high school choir all 4 years.  She was a long time, active member of Grace Church, where she was involved in many ministries.  She sang in the original Good News Trio with Annabelle Armstrong and Dorothy Young.  She served for 65 years in music ministry, accompanying the Junior and Senior choirs and playing piano for services, weddings, and funerals. For a number of years she was the secretary for the Board of Overseers.  She also assisted in various children’s ministries, always willing to help where needed.

Attending and participating in concerts were a joy to her.  She loved shopping with her girls, lunch outings with dear friends, and bus tours and car shows with Jim.  She had a gift for making people feel seen and loved. She adored her extended family.  Nothing made her happier than time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Maxine will be deeply missed by her husband, Jim; daughters Vicki (Jeff) Imhoff, and Sharon (Phil) Harbaugh all of Polk, and Shelly (Keith) Eberly of Jeromesville; grandchildren Jen (Keegan) Boucek, Brett (Mallory) Imhoff, Jamie (Logan) Walter, Adam (Kate) Harbaugh, Luke (Lorena) Harbaugh, Kelsey Eberly, and Dylan (Ashley) Eberly; and great grandchildren Kedrick and Keira Boucek, Gage, Leah, and Eden Imhoff, Alana and Alex Walter, Adley, Nora, Kenna, Tate, Leonel, Julian and Victoria Harbaugh, Harper Abbott and Sutton Eberly.  She is also survived by her cousin, Elaine Arnold, and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, and grandson-in-law Jaxon Dever.
