Richard Ray Baker

Richard Ray Baker, 88, of Wooster, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at West View Healthy Living in Wooster.

Dick was born November 29, 1937, in Jamestown, Ohio to Joseph Ray and Calla {Rose} Baker.

He married Mary Milham on June 1, 1984; she survives.

Dick worked as the welding inspector and instructor for Columbia Gas for 41 years; he took great pride in his work and laid the infrastructure for multi-state natural gas supply. He attended Glenmont Church of Christ. Dick loved to mow and take care of his horses and various animals. He enjoyed traveling and visiting his family in New Mexico, Florida, Georgia, and extended family in Ohio. Dick was known as a caregiver to his family and always there to lend a hand and help anyway he could.

Dick will be deeply missed by his wife; children Janet (Angelo) Malta; step-children Gary (Chrissy) Bess, Ted Bess, Laura (Ben) Berkey; grandchildren Angelo Richard Malta, Rachel (Michael) McDuffie, Kristopher Joseph Baker, Jesse Ray Baker; great-grandchildren Rylan, Vivienne, Meritt, Adam, Archie; and brother Larry Lee Baker.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, son Richard Lee Baker, and brother Joseph Jay Baker.

Friends may call Tuesday, June 23 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home (and livestreamed at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com/obituaries/Richard-Baker) with Pastors Ed Stivers and Cliff Beck officiating.
