Ronald L. Hyatt, age 69, of Hilliard, Ohio passed away on May 28, 2026, after an over a 7-year battle with lung cancer (NSCLC). He was born on August 10th, 1956 in Mount Vernon, Ohio to the late Barbara C. (Zedaker) Hyatt and Melvin R. Hyatt.
Ron grew up in Bangs and attended the Beulah United Methodist Church. He was a 1974 graduate of Mount Vernon High School where he was a member of the concert and marching bands. He then attended and graduated from The Ohio State University in Columbus where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). While at OSU, he completed the 4-year Army ROTC program and was subsequently commissioned in and served as an officer in the Ohio, Louisiana and Texas Army National Guards. He completed his Active Duty Basic Officer Leadership Course in the US Army at Fort Knox Kentucky in 1981 as an Armor Officer. Having worked most of his engineering career primarily in the Electric Utility Industry, Ron was a 2024 retiree of American Electric Power (AЕР) where he had worked 26 years as a Mechanical Engineer in their Power Generation Engineering Department in Columbus, Ohio. Ron was a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Ohio.
Ron is survived by his wife of over 40 years, DongSook R. (Yoo) Hyatt originally from South Korea; his son, Thomas (Shelly) Hyatt of Baltimore, Ohio, a grandson Keiran Hyatt of Baltimore, Ohio and a brother, Kevin Hyatt of Mount Vernon. He also has two half-brothers, Andy (Ruth) Hyatt & Steve (Larissa) Hyatt of Florida and their mother Jan Hyatt of Sarasota. He has numerous nieces and nephews, both in the United States and overseas.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by an infant brother, Bruce Hyatt, and grandparents Flora (Squires) & Glenn Zedaker, and Faithe (Jackson) & Jesse Hyatt.
At Ron’s request, no public services will be held other than a public visitation/viewing on Friday June 5, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 18260 Coshocton Rd, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A private graveside memorial service for family members will take place later. He will be interred at the Friendship Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Knox County, Ohio near numerous family members.
