Roy David McPike, 78, of Ashland, passed away June 11, 2026.
Roy was born July 11, 1947 in Quincy, Illinois to Harold Davis McPike and Thelma Delora {Smith} McPike.
Roy served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 in Vietnam.
He married Becky Clevidence on July 26, 1969.
Roy retired from Pentair in 2009 after working there for 37 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Amvets Post 96, as well as the Ashland VFW Post 1067. Roy was a hard worker, a fixer, and a man of no B.S. If he liked you, you knew. If he didn’t, you knew that too. But above all, Roy loved to take care of those he held close to his big, burly heart. From empty gas tanks to mechanical breakdowns or needing a ride, he’d help anyone with anything at a moments notice. He relished in serving his friends and family as designated on-line bargain shopper and kept everyone well-stocked with Amish produce and Planktown meat and cheese. Any stray cat that showed up on his stoop for, not one, not two, but any of three meals a day (wet and dry food) he laid out for them was immediately given a name, became part of his family, and was under his protection (and taken on golf cart rides if they were agreeable). He enjoyed visiting friends at the local Amvets on Monday nights, cooking, and day trips with his wife Becky to try out new restaurants (no matter how far the drive). He took pride in providing whatever big hunk of meat he thought family gatherings required. His absence from his family’s life is as big as his presence was. Rest well, Big Burry.
Roy will be deeply missed by his wife Becky McPike; daughters April (Mike Case) McPike and Melinda (Dave) Perzy; and grandchildren Sydney (Jordan Young) Bouch, Colby (Natt Slane) Bouch, Marley Bouch, Louis Perzy, and Layla Perzy.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Bonnie Henthorn.
To honor Roy’s requests, he is being cremated and he did not want a memorial service. He wanted to be remembered as he lived. Roberts Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where military rites will be held. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.
