Samuel Irvin McAfee passed away June 16, 2026 at Wooster Community Hospital with his loved ones by his side. He was born on the family farm, September 1st, 1936. He graduated from Wooster High School in 1956 while working for different farmers during his school years. After graduation he had a full time job farming and milking 50 Jersey cows for Silver Acers.

Samuel enlisted into the Army February 10, 1959 and discharged February 1961. He landed a job with W.L. Johnson Const building the Route 30 bypass around Wooster. On Oct 26, 1961 President Kennedy recalled him to be deployed to Cuba for the missile Crisis and ended up at Fort Meade for another year of military service. When he returned back home he went to work for Don W. Miller pipeline working in Indiana, then Northern pipeline in Medina. In 1969 he worked for E&L Transport, hauling new cars for Ford Motor to their dealers. After 30 years, he retired from driving.

Samuel married Shirley Kay Miller in 1980 and together started Miller Cab Service, Wooster. They built it up to 15 Taxi Cabs and 29 employees before it was sold in September 2012.

Sam and Shirley spent their winters in Florida in their motorhome, one winter they drove across the United States to California just to see the sights. He was a member of the American Legion and New Pittsburgh United Methodist Church. Sam enjoyed spending time with his family, especially Saturday morning breakfast with his brother, sister and family.

Samuel will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley; daughter Tracy McAfee of Ashland; grandchildren Brooklyn Frame of Ashland, Sam C McAfee and Alex Rogers both of Wooster; great-grandchildren Ellana Kurtz, Elijah McAfee, Samuel Brayden McAfee, Emberlyn Nichols, and Julian Rogers; brother Robert “Bob” (Louise) McAfee; sisters Bessie Anne Wade and Elizabeth “Betty” Copus; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Bertha McAfee, siblings Richard Merle McAfee, Phyllis (David) Jean Bellamy.

Friends may call Saturday June 20 from 10 to 12 p.m. at Oak Chapel United Methodist Church, 4203 W. Old Lincoln Way, Wooster. 

. Services will follow at 12 p.m. at the church with Pastor John Finn officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.
