Stephen Walter Lauer

Stephen Walter Lauer passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on July 15, 2026, after a brief battle with liver cancer.

Steve was born June 30, 1964, in Chester PA, to John and Maryanne (Maguire) Lauer. He was a 1982 graduate of Smithville High School and Wayne County Schools Career Center Agricultural Program. He worked as a CNC operator at Magni-Power in Wooster for almost 42 years.

He was a member of Apostolic Faith Assembly in Mansfield where he enjoyed hearing his Christian brothers share the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was there, within the warmth and fellowship of his Christian community, that he found deep spiritual nourishment. He also attended Crossroads Community Church in Wadsworth.

Surviving is his mother Maryanne Lauer; wife, Jan Richards Lauer; daughters Jessica (Brandon) Shaw of Ashland, OH, Alyssa (Cory) Bellaire of Temperance, MI; step-son, Kevin Richards of Wadsworth, OH; step-daughter Mindy (Adam) Workman of Wadsworth, OH; “Grand-Rascals”, Kaige, Silas & Mason Plotz, Ryker Shaw, Amelia Bellaire, and Lucas, Jacob & Rachel Workman.

He is also survived by sisters Kathy (Mike) Beard of Beach City, OH, Lisa (Ted) Mishler of North Lawrence, OH; brothers John Jr. Lauer of Orrville, OH, Dan (Mary) Lauer of Dalton, OH, Andy (Dana) Lauer of Arcadia, OH, Jason Lauer of Negley, OH, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father John M. Lauer Sr. in 2015.

His many grandchildren, whom he affectionately referred to as his "Grand-Rascals", were a source of immense joy in his life, and he took great pleasure in watching them pursue their passions. His relationship with his grandchildren was characterized by genuine interest and engagement, as evidenced by his presence at their activities and his commitment to meaningful interaction. His legacy is one of unwavering support and profound pride in their accomplishments. He instilled in them a love for competition, nature, and the importance of family bonds, ensuring his spirit lives on through their memories and shared experiences.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Crossroads Community Church in Wadsworth, OH, Saturday August 8, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Robert O’Brian and Kyle Zacour.
