Billy was born July 22, 1931 in Wayne County, WV.  He grew up in homes and farms in Kenova and Whites Creek.  His loves were raising and training horses and coon hunting with his best friend, Dal.  He bred Treeing Walker Coonhounds and participated as both a showman and judge at the Kenton Coondog Trials.

He was the oldest of five children and was described lovingly as their “strict but not mean, third parent”.  He served as a cook in the Navy from 1951-1956 and toured on the U.S.S. Purdy and U.S.S. Hollister during the Korean War with his brother, Jack and uncle James.  After leaving the service, he moved to Rittman, OH to work at the Ohio Boxboard Company.  He met and married his wife, Violet in 1957 and raised their daughter, Chris, born in 1959 there.  He joined the Teamsters in 1958, working in trucking and shipping and retired in 1993.

Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather, always had a funny story and a handkerchief in his pocket.  He stayed busy on his small farm in Rittman, gardening and taking his grandchildren on pony rides.  He and Violet attended all their grandchildren’s many sporting activities and proudly wore their school colors.  He will be remembered for his handsome smile, West Virginia drawl and gentle heart.

He is preceded in death by his father, Walter Davis, mother, Herma (Thacker), sister, Betty (Alley), brother, Jack, sister-in-law, Wilma (Staley), and brother-in-law, Bill Reynolds and sister-in-law Betty Figura

He is survived by his wife, Violet, brother, Joe, sister, Joyce Reynolds, sister-in-law, Jeannie (Wilson), daughter, Chris (Davis) Barnes, son-in-law, Mike Barnes. Grandchildren, Kyle (Brett), Kori, Kasey and Kameron (Kacy) Barnes. Great-grandchildren, Kiersten Barnes and Lila, Teddy and Leo Wright.
