Joan Gerber

November 16, 1928 — June 9, 2021

Joan Ellen ( Hodge) Gerber, 92 passed away at Burbank Parke Nursing Facility on June 9th, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

She was born in Wooster on November 16, 1928 to the late Charles Hodge and Florence (McAfee) Hodge. She was raised by her grandparents Samuel and Ella McAfee. She was a 1946 graduate of Smithville High School. She married Russell E. Gerber April 7, 1947 and they moved to Buss Road in 1950. They were parents of 3 children and were married nearly 70 years when Russell passed away January 19, 2017.

She worked at the college of Wooster in Housekeeping for 20 years and retired in 1990. She was a member of the Lions and Lionesses Club in Apple Creek and an Active member of the United Methodist Church of Apple Creek. She enjoyed her 3 granddaughters and loved cooking and baking. She was also an excellent seamstress and crocheted.

She is survived by her sons, Dale(DeDe) Gerber of Wooster, and R. Dean (Cindy) Gerber of Fort Myers, Florida, and Granddaughters, Amanda (Justin) Hauser, Lysandra (Daniel) Rowland and Alicia Gerber, her Great Grandchildren, Silas Hauser, Parker Hauser, Leondra Rowland and Gracie Rowland, son-in-law, David Venosdale and sister, Sandra Collins.

Joan was predeceased in death by her parents, husband Russell, daughter Linda Venosdale, her sisters, Dorothy Taylor of Jeromesville, Mercedes Jean Falvo of Canton, and Shirlee Francis of New Mexico and her brothers, Robert D. Hodge of Salem and Jack E. Hodge, who was killed in WWII at Battle of the Bulge.

Funeral services will be at the Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster at 11 am on June 15th with the family receiving guests one hour prior to the service. Pastor Carolyn Baker will officiate the service. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Roberts Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Online tributes may be made at www.robertsfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Apple Creek United Methodist Church, 269 West Main Street, Apple Creek, Ohio 44606
