Maxine "Mickey" Crabtree

On August 30, 2020, Maxine M. Crabtree would have been turning 99 years of age.  We would like to invite you to come and share her birthday with us.  She passed away March 25, 2020, but we would like you to celebrate with us in August.

Friends may call Sunday, August 30, 2020 at West Hill Baptist Church in the Family Life Center from 3 to 4 p.m. Services will follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Dan Wingate and Pastor Kirk Fairhurst officiating.

Maxine “Mickey” Crabtree, 98, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at West View Manor where she had resided the past 3½ years.

Mickey was born August 30, 1921 in Ft. Gay West, Virginia to John and Sadie (Thompson) Mullins. She graduated from Ft. Gay High School on May 26th, 1937 at the age of 15. She then attended Business College and moved to Rittman Oh. And started working at the Match Company.

She married Charles B. Crabtree on February 5, 1943 and he proceeded her in death January 25, 2001. In 1948 she and the family moved to Ft. Worth, TX where Charles attended Bible Baptist Seminary. They returned to Wooster in 1949 and started the Wooster Baptist Mission on Liberty Street. In 1950 The Wooster Baptist Temple was completed on Cleveland Road and the congregation moved to the new church. Charles retired from the church in 1965 and Maxine started going to West Hill Baptist Church where she was a charter member. The Wooster Baptist Temple building was torn down in 2020.

After raising her family, she went to work for R&D Metals in Kidron, OH. She later worked for three years at the Library at the OARDC and then she retired after 25 plus years from the Wayne County Public Library.

Mickey loved watching the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers but the Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball teams were her favorites. She loved to crochet and read and do Word Search Puzzles. Mickey loved reading her Bible and after moving to West View Manor she attended weekly Bible Study along with Chapel.  They called her their social butterfly because in the early times there she was always out visiting others, playing Bingo and Dominos and enjoying doing crafts.

Mickey is survived by her daughter, Linda (Jim) Billman and their children, Kim Billman, Tim (Sharon) Billman and their children Tyler and Abbie, Terri (Mike) Boreman and Kirsten and Lillian, her son, Keith (Carol) Crabtree; and their children, Jeni (Jim) Franks and their children Michaela and Isaac, Jody (Fred) Hart and their children Nikki and Mason, and Jacie (Joe)Westover and their children Alex (Taylor) Patterson, Jacob and C.J. Mickey also has two step great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, and special friends, Shirley Archer and Emma Troyer who helped to care for her in her later years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents and her stepfather Lee Stiltner, brothers Eugene Mullins and Virgil Mullins of Rittman and Pritchard, West Virginia, sister Gertrude of Ft. Gay West Virginia and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 3 p.m. on Facebook Live with Pastor Dan Wingate and Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. On Facebook, search “Maxine Crabtree Funeral.”  Please call Roberts Funeral Home at (330) 345-5665 for assistance.
