D. Earl Backus, 64, of Wooster, died Monday, January 31, 2011 after a 4 month battle with lung cancer.
He was born on July 4, 1946 in New Philadelphia, to William and Alberta {Shinn} Backus and grew up in Coshocton.
Earl worked for 21 years at Addressograph-Multigraph in Holmesville. He then moved to Florida and was a house painter and landscaper for many years. He returned to Ohio and made his home at the College Hills Retirement Village where he kept active helping his friends and neighbors, and helping with anything that would keep him in the outdoors that he loved.
Earl will be deeply missed by his daughters Tina Backus of Pomeroy OH, Tresa Backus, and Lisa (Jim) Culler of Apple Creek OH; grandchildren Zack Franks, Isaiah Carpenter, Kala (Tyler) Hoover, Keli Sheedy, Cory Stryker, Kristen, Allyson, and Noah Culler; sisters Gail Reed of St Petersburg FL, Geraldine (Larry) Lahna of Coshocton OH, and Darlene Backus of Cincinnati OH; nephews Rick, John, Angie, Thad; niece Ty and their families.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents William and Alberta.
Earl's wishes were to be cremated and a private family service held at a later date.
