Billy Kate Kersting, 89, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Sunrise Assisted Living of Wooster, OH.
She was born July 30, 1919, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Dr. William and Katie Walker. From an early age Billy Kate knew she wanted to help others. Much of her professional life involved working with child services and counseling at risk families in Columbus, OH and later in CT. Her volunteer activities included the South Side Day Care Center of Columbus, OH, and the American Red Cross and Mental Health Association, Eastern CT branches; She received a Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1943, and a Masters Degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University in 1949.
Surviving are a brother, Neil Walker of Tulsa, OH; two children Doctors Karl Kersting of Ames, IA and Ann Kersting of Wooster; two grandchildren Dulce Kersting of McMinnville, OR and Eric Miller of Wooster. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years Dr. Edwin (Ted) J. Kersting and her brother John.
She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Wooster. Billy Kate was a thoughtful, kind andcompassionate person; she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
